Title: Create a 30- to 60-second Elevator Speech in 3 Steps

Time in Development: Two weeks

Client: WorkForce Washington (fictitious client for professional development)

My Role: Instructional Designer, eLearning Developer, Content Writer, Editor, Graphic Designer

Context: WorkForce Washington is a division of the Employment Security Department of Washington State. They connect job seekers with employers and offer hiring events and trainings.

Challenge: Job seekers each have a personal brand. A personal brand statement, also known as an elevator speech, is just one element of a job seeker's personal brand and is essential when seeking employment. Many job seekers are not aware of the importance of having an elevator speech, and they do not know how to create one. The challenge is to show job seekers that creating an elevator speech can be less daunting if broken into 3 steps.

Solution: This elearning course consists of six lessons, two knowledge checks, and a summary reiterating key takeaways. Interactions to engage learners include: image maps, accordians, and flash cards. Examples of elevator speeches (Vimeo videos) are also offered. This course addresses the needs of aural, visual, and kinesthetic learners.

Result: Job seekers who successfully complete this course are better prepared to present a positive self image to their professional networks and prospective hiring managers. When delivering an elevator speech, job seekers are able to explain their expertise and the value they can bring to an employer.
